Jeb Dunnuck – Vintage 2022

TASTING NOTES 2022 by Jeb Dunnuck

Rasteau red “Héritage 1924” 2022
Like the 2021, the 2022 Rasteau Héritage 1924 is all Grenache from the oldest vines on the estate. Aged 9 months in concrete tank, its deeper ruby hue is followed by a rocking perfumed of red and blue fruits, peppery herbs, incense, violets, and subtle spice nuances. With medium-bodied richness, a round, layered mouthfeel, and a great finish, it should shine for a solid 8-10 years if well stored. This beauty will give many a top Châteauneuf du Pape a run for its money.

Roaix red “Les Hautes Granges” 2022
Also tasted out of barrel, this wine has lots of classic darker blackberry-like fruit as well as peppery, gamey, meaty, violet-like nuances. These carry to a richer, concentrated, medium to full-bodied Syrah with nicely integrated oak, fine tannins, and a great finish. It’s impressive.

Côtes du Rhône white “La Galopine” 2022
This wine brings a touch more richness and depth, while staying vibrant and pure. Tangerine, citrus oil, and honeyed flower notes all emerge on the nose, and it’s medium-bodied, layered, and textured, with a great finish.

Côtes du Rhône white “La Ponce” 2022
This wine has a juicy, citrus, mineral, and honeyed flower-driven style as well as medium-bodied richness and depth on the palate. With a terrific sense of freshness, good depth, and a great finish, it’s perfect for drinking over the coming 2-3 years.

Rasteau red “Argilla ad Argillam” 2022
Plenty of red and black fruits, savory garrigue, cured meats, and violet, peppery notes emerge from this wine, a medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated Rasteau that has good mid-palate density, fine tannins, and a great finish.

Carainne red “La Boutine” 2022
Lots of red fruits, savory flowers, and chalky minerality emerge from the 2022 Cairanne La Boutine, a classic, elegant, medium-bodied Cairanne. All Grenache, it’s going to have 4-6+ years of prime drinking.

Vin de France white “Scarabée” 2022
A unique blend of 60% Roussanne, 27% Marsanne, and the rest Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Viognier, and Muscat, this wine has an exotic bouquet of ripe lime and citrus fruits as well as sappy, minty herbs, and even a kiss of petrol, Riesling-like minerality. It’s medium-bodied, has a supple, elegant mouthfeel, and a clean, dry finish. It will be incredibly versatile on the dinner table.

Côtes du Rhône red “Les Sablières” 2022
This wine shows the up-front, fruity, incredibly charming style of the vintage with its perfumed black raspberry, violet, and exotic orange and floral nuances. Balanced, medium-bodied, and delicious, drink bottles over the coming 3-4 years.
