Father and daughter perpetuate the family tradition

“Gilles and Madeline Ferran produce delicate red wines.
The Domaine des Escaravailles is located in the highest part of the Rasteau vineyard, where the red clay is mixed with pebbles. Gilles Ferran, who graduated top of his class in Montpellier as an oenologist, comes from a winegrowing family where his grandfather, in the 1950s, produced only Rasteau as a natural sweet wine. To find finesse in his reds, he called on his friend and accomplice, the oenologist Philippe Cambie, who encouraged him to harvest the grapes when they were very ripe, in order to soften the powerful tannins that are so characteristic of Rasteau wines. With his daughter Madeline, who joined the estate three years ago, he produces reds with a delicate texture and Vin Doux Naturels with great precision, in keeping with family tradition.”
