“You have to take the winding road up to the heights of Rasteau to see Gilles Ferran’s cellar. The view of the vineyard below is superb, we are at an altitude of 340 metres. This estate, founded in 1953 by Gilles’ grandfather, initially produced only Vins Doux Naturels. Gilles and his wife’s first vintage was 1987; they are now accompanied by one of their daughters, Madeline, with inspiration. We were seduced by the terroir dimension and the overall harmony of the wines. The 2019 La Ponce cuvée, made from old Grenache and Syrah vines, offers excellent value for money. The material is concentrated and fine and the wine stretches out over a harmonious texture with perfect management of the power. It’s a full body wine, there is no need to rush”. Olivier Poussier
