Le Guide des meilleurs Vins de France 2024

La Revue du Vin de France

« Nestling on the heights of the Rasteau appellation, at an altitude of 340 metres, the estate cultivates 40 hectares of vines in a wide range of appellations: mainly Rasteau, but also Cairanne, Roaix and Villedieu. Gilles Ferran and his wife are now assisted by their daughter Madeline. This estate, founded in 1953, is renowned for the quality of its wines, with their juicy fruit and superb texture, as well as for its top-class Vins Doux Naturels Rasteau ambré. Not to be forgotten, however, are the white wines, which exude southern identity without being overly rich.

The wines : The quality of the 2021 reds is to be commended, a perfect demonstration of the mastery of the harvest.
Les Hautes Granges expresses a Syrah that has no reason to be ashamed of certain more northerly expressions.
The cuvée Argilla ad Argillam is a real favourite: the wine is elegant, with a lovely graphite freshness, the fruit is refined, the body balanced and the power tamed.
Héritage 1924 reveals all the good qualities of an old Grenache vine: floral aromas, finesse, stone fruit. The palate does not deny its powerful alcohol, but it is perfectly managed. La Ponce rouge is a very accomplished wine, with the frankness of the fruit and the greediness of the whole making it easier to read on the palate.
Le Ventabren is a lovely, full-bodied, velvety Cairanne.
We like La Ponce blanc for its fruit and mineral dimension provided by the clairette and white grenache.
We have awarded this estate a well-deserved first star. »
