« Argilla ad Argillam » Rasteau red 2017

“It was in the Priorat, a wine region on the Iberian Peninsula, that three Rasteaux winegrowers fell in love at first sight. Indeed, Jean-Pierre Bertrand, from the Grand Nicolet, Robert Charavin, from the Coteaux des Travers estate, and Gilles Ferran, from the Escaravailles estate, have invested in about fifteen amphorae over the last three years.”

“We embarked on the adventure with the 2016 grapes,” explains Laurence Ferran. We made four six hundred litre amphorae, two of Grenache, one of Syrah and one of Mourvèdre. Then, after nine months of maturing in clay, we made the blends and gave birth to 2,800 bottles of the Argilla ad Argillam cuvée.”

She adds, “Everything has been sold. Even though people like to come back to the estate, it is important to offer something new. In 2017 we had a small harvest and for this year we don’t know yet. But this vintage in amphora is already highly anticipated. Otherwise, my husband would like to bury his jars.”
